Best BBQ Spots To Visit in Plano, TX

barbecue

When you crave BBQ, you don’t have to look far to find it in and around Plano, Texas. From casual barbecue joints serving authentic Texas barbecue without any frills to upscale places that turn BBQ into fancy dishes, every restaurant has its own special secret to creating delicious, smoked meat. The biggest challenge for most locals and visitors is deciding where to go, and then choosing which of your favorite meats you want to order. Take a look at some of the places where you can get the best BBQ in and near Plano.

Lockhart Smokehouse

When you research barbecue in Plano, Lockhart Smokehouse is always at the top of the list. You’ll find it at 1026 E. 15th Street in Plano, and it’s a local favorite. It’s the only place in the DFW area where you can get Kreuz Market Sausage, and it still comes on butcher paper just like it did back in 1900 when Charles Kreuz Sr. started smoking meats at his grocery store.

When you get there, head to the counter and choose the cuts that you want. All the meats at this barbecue joint come by the pound, so you can grab a little of everything. Choose from brisket, shoulder clod, pork ribs, chicken, and turkey, and always make sure you get some of the Kreuz original sausages, too. The counter where you order sits next to the smoker, and once you order, the staff pulls the meat right off the smoker and slices it to order.

While you are waiting for the staff to create your plate, head to the bar, grab a cold drink to go with your BBQ. Sit back and once it’s served, dig in with your hands. There’s no fork needed for this meal.

Hutchins BBQ

The folks at Hutchins BBQ have been serving their famous smoked brisket since 1948. They smoke the brisket for up to 17 hours, so it comes out soft and full of smoked flavor. The pit is always going, with pecan wood used for cooking the cuts of meat that continuously come off the pit throughout the day. This place is also known for its Texas Twinkies. These are jalapeno peppers stuffed with cream cheese and brisket, then wrapped in bacon. This appetizer is a local favorite, and something you can’t find anywhere else.

Head to the Frisco location for prime brisket that you can get sliced or chopped pork ribs, pulled pork, and bone-in chicken. The menu also includes a two meat sandwich, pulled pork sandwiches, and house-made sausage sandwiches. Don’t forget to order some of the sides, which include jalapeno pinto beans, french fries, mashed potatoes, fried okra, and coleslaw.

When you have a crowd, order from Hutchins for everyone. The family pack feeds three to four people and comes with up to four meats, three sides, bread, and sauce, and if you need more food, the party pack feeds up to six, and the Texas feast feeds up to 12. If you and your family still have room after a feast as grand as this, be sure to check out some of these amazing dessert spots in Plano, TX!

Winners BBQ

Winners BBQ’s owners come from a sports background, and everything has a sporty theme. The menu features meat plates with choices that include chopped brisket, sliced brisket, pulled pork, and chicken. The MVP potato comes with butter, cheese, sour cream, and your choice of meat. If you have a large appetite and you want to go big, try the G.O.A.T. potato. This is a large baked potato smothered in all the meats from the menu. Winners also has some great sandwiches. The Cyclone comes with three different meats of your choice and is sure to fill you up.

When you need to feed a crowd, head to Winners and ger the Party Time platter. It has a full slab of ribs, a two-pound brisket, two more pounds of a meat of your choice, and four large sides.

Hard Eight BBQ

The coals are always hot at Hard Eight BBQ, and they cook their meats on fresh mesquite wood every day. Stop by for a true Texas-style experience where you choose your meats straight from the pit. The pitmaster will serve it up along with the sides of your choice. Choose from brisket, pork ribs, sausage, sirloin, and turkey. You can also get all-beef bologna, shrimp poppers, ham, and pulled pork.

The stuffed potato is always a good choice at Hard Eight. It comes with brisket, turkey, ham, or sausage and makes the perfect side, or you can get it as your meal. The Hard Eight famous fries are also a must, and if you like rich and creamy dishes, the mac & cheese is delicious. Other sides include jalapeno sweet corn for a combination of sweet and spicy, and if you want something light to go with your brisket or ribs, you can get a tossed green salad or fresh fruit bowl.

Dicky’s Barbecue Pit

Dicky’s Barbecue Pit is a local barbecue chain that serves up delicious BBQ, and is perfect when you need a quick lunch or dinner. The brisket, kielbasas, and chicken are all smoked on-site using time-tested techniques. Dicky’s has all your favorites, such as pulled pork, pork ribs, and marinated chicken breast. The giant bakers are huge baked potatoes that you can get topped with meat, pork, and beans, chicken and spinach, or brisket chili. The pit-smoked wings are a must, with options for six, 18, or 24 pieces.

Dicky’s offers some unique combinations, such as the brisket mac stack. This has slow-smoked brisket on top of their creamy mac and cheese. The brisket chili Frito pie is also a good choice and will hit the spot. It has a combination of Frito chips, topped with brisket chili, shredded cheddar cheese, and green onions.
