Car Comparison: 2022 Chevy Bolt EV & EUV – What’s the Difference?

For the past several years, the Chevrolet Bolt EV was one of the more popular electric vehicles on the market. This is because it offered some great performance specs and an enjoyable ride, all for an affordable price. For 2022, Chevrolet introduced the Chevrolet Bolt EUV to go along with the Chevrolet Bolt EV. These vehicles have a lot in common but there are some key differences. Below, we’ll outline the key differences and similarities to help you decide between the two models.

The biggest difference between these two vehicles is their size. The 2022 Chevy Bolt EV is the same size as previous versions of the Bolt EV and in the style of a hatchback vehicle, while the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV is in the shape of a compact SUV. This is where it gets its name from – Electric Utility Vehicle.

Specifically, the EUV has a wheelbase that’s 2.9 inches longer and 6.3 inches longer overall. The result is more space in the rear seats, which taller passengers are sure to appreciate. As for cargo space, both the EV and the EUV offer around the same, despite the size differences. With the back seat folded down, the EUV offers 56.9 cubic feet of cargo volume while the EV offers 57 cubic feet. However, this doesn’t account for the additional under-floor bin within the EUV, which provides an additional 9 inches or so to its storage capabilities.

The final major difference between the two models is the price. The 2022 Chevy Bolt EV has a starting MSRP of $31,995, while the Bolt EUV starts at $33,995. This makes both vehicles more affordable than the 2021 Bolt EV.

Chevy Bolt EV vs Chevy Bolt EUV: The Similarities

The Chevy Bolt EV and the Chevy Bolt EUV have more in common than there are differences. Here are just a few ways that these vehicles match up similarly:

Performance

Both of these vehicles have similar performance specs, thanks to having nearly identical powertrains. Inside both vehicles, you’ll find an electric motor and a 64 kWh battery that combine to produce 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. In addition to this, both vehicles have the same distance range on a full battery charge, coming in at 247 miles. So, if performance is a key factor for you when making a decision, then you can’t go wrong with either the Chevrolet Bolt EV or the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, as they both offer identical performance metrics.

Entertainment and Comfort Features

Included standard in both the Bolt EV and the Bolt EUV is a digital gauge display along with a 10.2-inch infotainment screen. With this infotainment system, you can easily connect with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon’s Alexa. There’s also an integrated WiFi hotspot available and you can interact with these vehicles remotely through a smartphone app. For example, you can receive charging alerts when your vehicle’s battery is low or connect to nearby charging networks.

As for comfort, integrated climate controls are standard. You can also expect to find comfortable and stylish seats in both vehicles, along with soft surfaces throughout the dashboard. Finally, as the shape of the vehicle really only impacts the second row of seats, if you’re in the front row, you likely won’t notice much difference between the two vehicles in terms of space.

Safety Features

Both the Chevy Bolt EV and the Chevy Bolt EUV come with a host of standard safety features, along with some optional features. Standard safety features for these vehicles include:

  • Automated emergency braking.
  • Pedestrian detection.
  • Lane-keeping assist.
  • Lane-departure warning.

Optional features include adaptive cruise control and the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system. With this system, your vehicle detects the best time to change lanes, turns on the signal for you, and begins the maneuver. With an attentive driver, the Super Cruise system allows for hands-free driving while still remaining safe on the road. This advanced tech costs extra but you may find the convenience and safety of it worthwhile.

Which Chevy Bolt is Right for You?

As you can see, the Chevy Bolt EV and the Chevy Bolt EUV have a lot in common. However, there is enough of a difference between the two that you should carefully consider which option is best for you. Generally speaking, you may prefer the Bolt EUV if you want additional space for passengers in the back row, along with the additional storage space from the under-floor bin. On the other hand, if you don’t need this extra space, then you may prefer the lower price point of the Chevrolet Bolt EV.

The best part is, no matter which option you decide to go with, you’ll end up with a great electric vehicle. Both the EV and the EUV provide great performance specs, driving range, entertainment amenities and safety features. It’s for these reasons that the Chevy Bolt has remained one of the more popular electric vehicles on the market. This doesn’t change for 2022, except now you have the choice between a hatchback version or a compact SUV model.
