There’s no doubt that Chevrolet manufactures some of the best SUVs, such as the Blazer and the Equinox. These SUVs are shining examples of engineering excellence, from their eye-catching exterior designs to their innovative automotive technologies. Deciding whether the Blazer or the Equinox is the right SUV for you isn’t as straightforward as it may seem, with different designs, performance factors, and features making each one unique. Here are a few details you might want to consider about the Blazer and Equinox before coming to a decision.

Trim Levels and Exterior Design

If you are looking for more options to customize your next SUV, the 2021 Chevrolet Blazer has you covered with six trim levels. You have the choice of L, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, RS, and Premier. You will have lots of options and available features to explore when considering the Blazer. The Blazer has a rugged yet sporty exterior design with an oversized grille, an aggressive stance, and an overall modern aesthetic.

Though the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox doesn’t have has many trim levels, you can still choose from the L, LS, LT, and Premier. Even though there are two fewer trims with the Equinox, it still has plenty of available features. Equinox’s exterior design has a more classy feel with soft curves, crisp lines, and a modern-chic look that is sure to have your friends’ heads turning.

Power and Performance

The 2021 Blazer has three engine options. The base engine is a 2.5-liter with 193 horsepower and 188 pound-feet of torque. Next up is an available 2.0-liter turbo-4 with 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet torque. At the top of the line is an available 3.6-liter V-6 with 308 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. The 2.0-liter and 3.6-liter help the Blazer deliver a thrilling driving experience.

A nine-speed automatic transmission is equipped in all Blazers, providing smooth shifts and efficient power transfer from the engine to the wheels. All-wheel-drive is also available in most Blazer models and provides improved traction and handling. Independent suspension helps to keep the Blazer riding smoothly on the roughest roads. The Blazer RS has available drive modes, including Sport, which moves power along the rear axle, allows the steering to pick up more weight, holds gears longer, and allows you to tackle curvy back roads with ease.

The 2021 Equinox has two engine options. The base engine is the 1.5-liter turbo-4 with 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque and pumps power through a 6-speed automatic transmission. The available 2.0-liter turbo-4 with 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque has quicker acceleration and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Equinox is geared more towards a soft and comfortable ride than the Blazer, and it excels regardless of the road ahead.

The Equinox also has an available all-wheel-drive system, which provides excellent handling and traction control when driving in inclement weather. Both SUVs can tow, with the Blazer outpacing the Equinox with a total tow rating of 4,500 pounds. The Equinox only has the potential to tow 1,500 pounds. Both SUVs excel in different areas, and picking between the two can quickly come down to personal preferences.

Connected and Entertained

Chevrolet continues to refine its in-vehicle connectivity and entertainment systems, and the 2021 Blazer and 2021 Equinox are no exceptions to this fact. Both vehicles offer many available features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, In-vehicle apps, SiriusXM with 360L, and Alexa Built-In. On top of these features, the available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot lets your family use their smart devices to connect to their favorite music, movies, games, and more. Regardless if you are stuck in traffic or traveling to your next vacation destination, your whole family can enjoy being connected and entertained for the duration.

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel mileage depends on the configuration of a vehicle. Factors that play a role in this determination are the engine, transmission, and if the car is front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. The 2021 Blazer can get up to 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, making a combined mpg of 24. The 2021 Equinox can get up to 26 mpg in the city, 31 on the highway, and a combined mpg of 28. These estimates are hinged on the most efficient configuration for each vehicle.

Capacity

The 2021 Blazer is slightly bigger than the 2021 Equinox, but don’t let this trick you into thinking that the Equinox is outmatched by the Blazer when considering interior space. Both vehicles can seat five passengers comfortably, providing ample headroom and legroom. They also have flexible cargo space to carry what you need, when you need it.

The Blazer and Equinox are evenly matched, with the Blazer having 30.5 cubic feet of space behind the second-row seats, and the Equinox has 29.9 cubic feet of space behind its second-row seats. With the second-row folded down, the Blazer has a total cargo area of 64.2 cubic feet, while the Equinox has 63.9 cubic feet to work with. You can pretty much carry the same number of people and stuff regardless if you choose the Blazer or Equinox.

Safety Features

Chevrolet vehicles excel in keeping you and your family safe, and both the 2021 Blazer and 2021 Equinox are loaded with available safety features. Both vehicles’ safety features include automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, forward collision alert, and lane-keep assist with lane departure warning. As if those weren’t enough, you can also expect adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, OnStar safety and security, adaptive cruise control, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, rear park assist, Intellibeam auto high-beam assist, and much more.

Now you have an overview of what makes both the 2021 Blazer and 2021 Equinox stand out in a world of SUVs; you can make a more informed decision of which one is right for you. Both of these Chevrolet vehicles are easy on the eyes, have plenty of room for cargo, are comfortable, can keep you and your family entertained, etc. Which one will you choose? No matter if it’s the Blazer or the Equinox, you will be joining the Chevrolet family and experience quality, security, and safety at their best.
