The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is an exceptionally well-made SUV that has many desirable attributes and features, from reliable performance to spacious seating. Whether you’re driving around town or going on a road trip, you can count on this crossover to live up to your expectations. Let’s take a closer look at the new Chevy Equinox.

Exterior

The 2022 Chevy Equinox looks sporty and aggressive with its dramatic curves, wide and dominant grille, sharp headlights, and pronounced bumpers. The distinctive jet-like chrome trim between its grille and headlights makes it instantly recognizable. Beautifully sculpted door panels contribute to a firm yet elegant profile, while black D-pillars create an illusion of a wraparound rear windshield. Overall, this SUV is pleasing to the eye and won’t look out of place in any setting.

Performance

The Chevrolet Equinox is fitted with a 1.5-liter turbo-four that generates 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque no matter which trim level you choose. This energetic engine delivers power to the front wheels or, optionally, all four wheels via a slick-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. With this setup, the crossover can handle almost any driving task you throw at it, from running errands in town to passing on the highway. The SUV has a tow rating of 1,500 pounds.

Few compact SUVs are as pleasant to drive as the Equinox. Thanks to its small footprint and lightly weighted and responsive steering, this Chevy model is a cinch to maneuver and park. It demonstrates excellent composure at high speeds and around tight corners and smoothly rides uneven pavement. Its strong brakes provide a confident driving experience.

Fuel Efficiency

Another appealing aspect of the Chevrolet Equinox is its high fuel-economy ratings. This SUV returns 26/31 mpg (city/highway) with front-wheel drive and 25/30 mpg with all-wheel drive. These figures are above average in the compact SUV segment.

Interior

The 2022 Chevy Equinox is a two-row SUV that can accommodate up to five people. In both rows, the seats are adequately cushioned and supportive of keeping their occupants relaxed on long-distance trips. They also provide adult-friendly legroom and headroom. The interior of Equinox is sturdily built and replete with quality materials and soft-touch surfaces. Its airy and uncluttered environment contributes to good outward visibility, while its generous sound-deadening materials ensure a tranquil ride.

Cargo Capacity

If you routinely need to carry a lot of cargo or large objects, you’ll appreciate the Chevrolet Equinox’s expansive cargo space. This SUV offers 29.9 cubic feet of storage space with its rear seats upright and 63.9 cubic feet with those seats folded down. That’s enough room for a weekend’s worth of camping gear, a couple of bikes, or bulky materials from the home improvement store. The towing capacity of the Chevy Equinox is worth checking out the popular midsize SUV!

Safety

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox an overall crash safety rating of five stars, the highest possible score. The crossover received five stars for frontal and side crash safety and four for rollover safety. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety has yet to crash-test the latest Equinox, but it gave the similar 2021 model the highest rating of “good.”

One of the most notable changes to appear in the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is the deletion of the base L trim. As such, the SUV is available in only four trims, which are:

LS

With a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $25,800, the LS is now the entry-level trim of the Chevy Equinox. This model comes with LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, cloth upholstery, manual front seats, a manual liftgate, push-button start, keyless entry, rear-seat alert, and a rearview camera. It also has a good array of standard infotainment features to provide you with a more connected and enjoyable driving experience, including a 7-inch touch-screen display, four USB ports, a six-speaker sound system, satellite radio, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

In addition, the LS is equipped with the Chevrolet Safety Assist suite of driver-assistance features, which includes lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure alert, forward automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, pedestrian monitoring, and forward-collision alert. Available options include a power driver’s seat, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic warning, and rear parking sensors.

LT

The LT costs a minimum of $26,900. It has all of the standard features of the LS, plus a power driver’s seat. Also, this trim gives you access to a wide range of available features, such as a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, a power liftgate, a panoramic sunroof, an 8-inch touch-screen display, navigation, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree parking camera system.

RS

Starting at $30,100, the RS distinguishes itself from the other trims with sporty styling features such as 19-inch wheels and black exterior accents. It also comes standard with heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, a power liftgate, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic warning, and parking sensors. If you choose this trim, you can get most of the options available on the LS, as well as leather seats and a seven-speaker sound system.

Premier

The top-of-the-line Premier will set you back $31,000 or more. This model adds 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, a hands-free power liftgate, an 8-inch touch-screen display, two extra USB ports, a wireless device charger, and the Safety Alert Seat system. In addition to the aforementioned options, it also offers available features such as a power front-passenger seat, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and hands-free parking assistance.
