What To Expect From The New 2024 Chevy Silverado EV

The electric vehicle (EV) market is heating up, with automakers racing to produce the next best thing in electric pickups. And Chevrolet isn’t one to be left behind. The company has unveiled the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, a pickup designed to deliver impressive performance, range, and advanced technologies. In this article, we’ll give you an overview of what the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV has to offer.

Built on the Ultium Platform

The Silverado EV is built on GM’s advanced Ultium platform, which it shares with other vehicles, such as the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq. This platform allows for a range of battery capacities, motor options, and body configurations.

Two Configurations Available: RST First Edition and WT Model

The Silverado EV will be available in two main configurations that cater to various needs: RST First Edition and WT model. Both are fully electric with different features and capabilities.

RST First Edition

The RST First Edition includes features such as four-wheel steering, automatic adaptive air suspension, a large 17-inch LCD infotainment screen, and Super Cruise. With its dual electric motors for standard all-wheel drive, it boasts up to 754 horsepower and over 785 lb-ft of torque. The RST can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds when in max power mode.

This version comes with an estimated range of 400 miles on a full charge and can tow up to 10,000 pounds while supporting a payload of up to 1,300 pounds.

WT Model

Designed as a fleet-oriented work truck, the WT model offers exceptional value. It comes with an estimated range of 450 miles on a full charge and uses dual electric motors to deliver 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque.

Both the RST and WT models offer impressive capabilities for various driving situations. In addition, they both come with standard DC fast charging (up to 350 kW) and up to 10.2 kW of offboard power with optional equipment.

Charging Options

Charging your Silverado EV is easy and convenient, whether you’re at home or on the go. At home, you can opt for Level 2 charging, providing the optimal charging speed that fits daily routines and driving needs. Level 1 charging serves as a backup option for home use.

On the go, you can rely on over 50,000 available public charging stations to keep your Silverado EV charged up. With GM-estimated 100 miles of range added in just 10 minutes using public DC charging stations, you’ll have plenty of flexibility when planning longer trips.

To help manage charging and plan routes, the myChevrolet mobile app with Energy Assist provides real-time information about compatible public charging station locations and availability. Plus, it allows control of certain vehicle features, checking battery status, setting plug-in reminders, and making payments.

Towing Capabilities

The Silverado EV is no slouch when it comes to towing power. The RST First Edition boasts a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds and a payload of up to 1,300 pounds. To assist with towing and maneuvering trailers or other loads, the Silverado EV offers up to 14 camera views and four-wheel steering for enhanced maneuverability.

A Resurrected Midgate Design Feature

One standout feature making a comeback on the Silverado EV is the Multi-Flex Midgate design, reminiscent of the Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck from the early 2000s. This feature allows for additional storage space by folding down the rear seats and opening up a pass-through between the cab and bed. With the midgate open and the optional configurable tailgate extended, the Silverado EV can accommodate items up to 10 feet, 10 inches in length.

Interior and Infotainment

Inside the Silverado EV, you’ll find a modern and spacious cabin packed with features to make your drive more enjoyable. The RST First Edition boasts a 17-inch LCD infotainment screen, while the WT model comes with a smaller version. The driver also gets a configurable 11-inch instrument display on the RST trim, as well as an available full-color head-up display on the windshield.

Google integration is built into the infotainment system, providing access to popular Google services, such as Maps and Assistant, right from your vehicle’s touch screen.

Hands-Free Driving With Super Cruise

The high-end RST trim also comes with Chevrolet’s hands-free Super Cruise system, which operates on more than 400,000 miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada. This advanced technology takes some stress off long drives by allowing you to let go of the wheel under certain circumstances while still maintaining control of your vehicle.

Safety Features

Safety is paramount in any vehicle, especially when you’re carrying heavy loads or towing trailers. The Silverado EV includes a suite of standard and available safety technologies to ensure you stay safe on every journey. Some key safety features include:

  • Automatic emergency braking.
  • Front pedestrian braking.
  • Lane-keep assist with lane departure warning.
  • Forward collision alert.
  • Following distance indicator.
  • IntelliBeam high beam assist.

Availability and Reservations

General Motors is repurposing and retooling its Factory ZERO, Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center, with a $2.2-billion investment devoted to EV production. This state-of-the-art facility will manufacture the upcoming Silverado EV, using both domestically and globally sourced components.

The Silverado EV will be rolled out in multiple variants to cater to a range of needs and budgets. At its initial launch, GM will offer the 4WT model, capable of a remarkable 450-mile range on a full charge. Hot on the heels of the 4WT, the 3WT model is expected to follow with a still impressive estimated range of 350 miles.

Later in fall 2023, consumers can look forward to the launch of the premium RST First Edition model. This high-end variant boasts a 400-mile range and an estimated starting MSRP of $105,000, plus destination freight charge. Chevrolet will continue to expand the Silverado EV lineup to ensure customers can find the perfect truck to meet their specific needs and budgets.
